Privacy Policy

Data the app processes

Depending on which features you use and what permissions you grant, the app may process:

• Precise location (GPS/network) to record your trail, trips, and visited areas.
• Time and motion context (timestamps, speed/accuracy fields) to build daily summaries and stats.
• Places metadata derived from your activity (e.g., countries/cities visited and coverage grids).
• Photos if you attach or select them for journal entries; the app may read image metadata needed for display and export.
• Exported files you generate (e.g., GPX/PDF/images/cards), which may contain sensitive location history depending on your selections.

Most data is stored locally in the app’s database on your device. The developer does not operate a backend that receives your full location history.

Location permissions (foreground & background)

GPS Life Tracker requests location permissions to support its core tracking features. You can grant or revoke these permissions at any time in Android settings.

• While in use: allows the app to access location only when the app is visible.
• Allow all the time (background): allows the app to access location when the app is minimized/closed so it can keep recording your trail when tracking is enabled.

When background tracking is enabled, the app uses a location foreground service and shows a persistent notification while recording.

When data may be sent over the network

GPS Life Tracker is not built around a cloud account, but some features necessarily use network requests:

• Map tiles: the map downloads raster tiles from providers such as OpenStreetMap and CARTO (e.g., tile.openstreetmap.org and *.basemaps.cartocdn.com). These requests may reveal your IP address and which tiles were requested (which can approximate the area you viewed).
• Reverse geocoding (place names / photo labels): the app uses Android’s geocoding APIs to translate coordinates into human-readable locations. Depending on your device, this may contact a geocoding service provider.
• City boundary lookup: to render some city boundaries, the app may query OpenStreetMap’s Nominatim service (search by city/admin strings) to fetch boundary geometry.

This app does not include third-party advertising SDKs.

Sharing, exports, and disclosure

The app provides export and sharing features (e.g., GPX, PDF, and shareable cards). Exports can include sensitive information like exact routes and locations depending on what you choose to include.

• You initiate sharing. The app uses Android’s share sheet so you can choose the destination app (email, chat, drive, etc.).
• Location labels in exports are optional. Some exports can include human-readable addresses derived from geocoding; you can disable those options when exporting.

Data retention & deletion

• Your data is stored locally until you delete it.
• You can remove your history by using in-app deletion controls (if available), clearing the app’s storage in Android settings, or uninstalling the app.
• Exports you create are stored wherever you save/share them; manage those copies using your device and the receiving apps/services.

How to disable background location

• Stop tracking in the app (turn off Tracking) to stop recording.
• Revoke background permission in Android settings: App info → Permissions → Location → select “Allow only while using the app” or “Don’t allow.”
• Disable notifications if you no longer want the ongoing tracking notification (note: this may limit background tracking on some Android versions).

Security

The app relies on Android’s platform security and app sandboxing. You are responsible for securing your device (lock screen, OS updates). No method can guarantee absolute security, especially if your device is rooted or compromised.

Children’s privacy

GPS Life Tracker is not directed to children under 13 and is not intended for use by children without parental supervision. The developer does not knowingly collect personal information from children. Note that third-party services used for map tiles/geocoding may receive standard network metadata (such as IP address) when you use those features.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves (for example, if new features introduce new data flows). When we update it, we will revise the “Last updated” date.
